Stella Sneaks Snacks
Stella struggles with hoarding food and over-eating as the result of a traumatic early childhood. Vague references to the trauma and purposeful naming of caregivers as "grown-ups who loved her" as opposed to calling them "parents" help biological, adopted and foster children alike identify with this character. Use of a doll model as the main character offers further ability for children to identify with Stella, but from the safe, emotional distance of knowing she is not a real person. Book comes with a companion journal that encourages the child to write their own story and which can be copied for work with additional clients. Written by a licensed therapist and uniquely illustrated by her father.
